Owning Highlands 101

Spend two hours at Black Rock Farm to learn from first-generation farmer, Victoria. Owning cattle is no small feat, especially figuring out how to do it with little to no real experience! Workshop Overview:

  • 10:15am - 10:45am - Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities

    • Learn about our fencing, watering, shelter, chute and handling systems, halter breaking pens and more

  • 10:45am - 11:15am - Chute Operations & Safe Handling

    • Learn how to safely work and handle Highlands. Understand our chute operations and how we prepare for a visit from the vet

  • 11:15am - 11:30 - Health & Nutrition

    • Go through our cow emergency kit as well as understand the process behind feeding our herd

  • 11:30 - 12:00pm - Halter Breaking

There is SO much more that can be covered, but this workshop gives you a lot of the parts and pieces to help you decide if owning Highlands is right for you, or even if you simply want to level up your skills and learn from a farmer direct!
